Hydro Jetting 101 – What Is it?

Having cleared pipes is very important for proper drainage. Keeping these drains clear can reduce the accumulation of debris and clogging that may occur. Clearing drains should be done regularly as other key inspections.  One way to reduce your community’s liability and emergency service is to have bi-annual scheduled maintenance. Keeping a schedule can reduce clogged drains and keep your homeowners, workers, and all visitors safe and content. During this maintenance,  ask your plumber about Hydro Jet Cleaning.

What is Hydro Jetting?

Hydro jetting is the best way to remove any large or small debris and buildup. Hydro jetting is an industrial pipe cleaning machine that can eliminate any clogging, accumulation, and other debris that has often proved problematic for large multi-family dwellings. A hydro jet blasts out hot water at very high pressure. The hot water’s pressure can exceed over 7,000 psi.  This service is recommended only twice a year to maintain the integrity of the pipes.

Although hydro jetting is a great service, it isn’t for all properties. Buildings with older plumbing units should schedule an inspection prior to requesting a hydro jet service. This powerful tool has been known to damage older pipes by inexperienced plumbers. Our professional plumbers are ready to answer the question “Is this service for your property?”

Better than a Snakehead

Snake cleaning is a great way to clear away draining when there is a clog. Unlike a hydro jet, a snake cleaning can only clear the area of the pipes as big as the head of the snake. Snaking should only be used a quick fix to clearing out a clog. We recommend using a snake cleaning on older pipes.

  1. It’s great that you can get such an impressive clean out of pipes just from water pressure, though it makes sense as 7,000 psi is a lot. I appreciate your tip to have older plumbing units inspected before hydro jetting is used to clean them, as well. My home plumbing system has been clogging up repeatedly and I want to get it cleaned out, and I’ll be sure to take your advice and make sure that they’re not too old to be cleaned this way.
